- Robert Moses State Park, Babylon
Spanning 875 acres with nearly five miles of beaches, Robert Moses State Park offers endless options for family entertainment. Playgrounds, nature trails, picnic areas, fishing piers and a golf course give you plenty to of ways to keep busy, along with an expansive stretch of coastline with a boardwalk and four guarded beaches. The park's location at the westernmost end of Fire Island makes it easy to get to, and there is parking near the beaches.
- North Hempstead Beach Park, Port Washington
North Hempstead Beach Park overlooks Hempstead Bay and provides an incredible view across the bay to Long Island Sound. This 60-acre park includes a broad stretch of sandy beach that's great for swimming, building sand castles and sunbathing. Take a stroll on the promenade, try a little fishing from the pier, and be sure to check out the basketball, volleyball and bocci ball courts. Hit up the concession stand, or pack a lunch and enjoy it at the shady picnic area.
- Crab Meadow Beach, Fort Salonga
With a playground and covered picnic area overlooking a vast expanse of Long Island Sound, Crab Meadow Beach is an off-the-beaten-path spot for a relaxing family beach trip. A kayak launch and boardwalk are located near the beach, along with an on-site restaurant, called La Casa Cafe, which has a pizza and ice cream window.
- Jones Beach State Park, Wantagh
Families have been flocking to Jones Beach State Park for years, making it one of Long Island's most famous and popular beach destinations. With over six miles of shoreline, the park offers swimming, picnic areas, beachfront boardwalks and a series of iconic beach tunnels that lead down to the surf. Concessions offer classic beach favorites like hot dogs and ice cream. Weekends and holidays pack in beach lovers, so plan your visit mid-week if you want to beat the crowds.
- West Meadow Beach, Brookhaven
West Meadow Beach is a beautiful spot to take a dip and watch the sun go down across the water, but the real hidden gem here is the splash park, which is a great place for kids to play and cool off. There's also a volleyball area, walking trails, picnic gazebos, playgrounds, and plenty of parking convenient to the beach. Swimming lessons are offered daily, and lifeguards are on duty until 6 pm.
