Very small class size. Some have less than 8 children. Many new motivated teachers. Very nice facilities. Great after school program. I see the Ukrainian language taught as a plus since my child will then be able to understand other Slavic languages (like Russian). Always, first observe a class.

this school really rocks!!! My sister went there and it was awesome. Now I'm going there and it is still awesome!!! I do cross country and my best friend does glee. Can you believe it, they have glee. The teachers are so funny and nice, and they really know how to teach kids. I wish I could rate this school a 10 but sadly the highest I can rate it is a 5.

A very unique and wonderful school! My daughter loves it so much she does not want to leave the school. She enjoys it thoroughly. The teachers, staffs, and PTA executive board are all wonderful! A very family oriented environment. They always welcome you. I love that she can excel both academically and artistically at the same time. As a parent I am very satisfied.

I began the Friends Seminary Upper School in freshman year and I am so glad I did. Everyone has been so welcoming and I've had so much fun with my fellow students. The teachers are truly dedicated and care about the success of each individual student. I love all my teachers, they are great at what they do and really understand the material they teach. I learned so much at my first year at friends than any other school i've attended. Most people get the impression that Friends is an "easy" school because it is based on Quaker values. This is completely false. The Friends high school is extremely rigorous. But, even though it is a lot of work, the topics are still interesting. If you are considering putting your child in the Friends upper school you should make sure they are self motivated to work hard. Although the curriculum is challenging, Friends provides plenty of resources and support to keep students up to speed. But, what I love most about Friends is the community. You start out at Friends and you are treated like you've been there all along Everyone is really close. It's just a really extraordinary school to attend.

Absolutely top notch teachers and curriculum. The school itself (on the top two floors of the old Stuyvesant High School) is a bit "dog-eared" and could use some sprucing up. The class assignments (most often collaborative projects, hence the name) are consistently sophisticated and challenging. The school is not interested in standardized testing and to its credit does not "teach to the test." They teach students to think, not to memorize and regurgitate.

I think this parent is wrong!! Uniform: They have exceptions for someone who can't afford. She just had to sign the form they gave to everyone. And uniform idea was brought up by parents, and voted by parents as well. Parents in school: They give parent passes to walk in with lower grade kids, and it is very safe, because only limited people can come in. Security is a lot better than before. Teachers' contact: They do give out teachers' contact e-mails, look at the school website, or just call if you have concern, and they have Family Instruction Morning every month to visit your kids' classes, also a lot of workshops for parents to support their kids. Is she reading all the prints from school? important ones are in Spanish as well.

We entered this school cautiously after considering private school, worried about academic rigor and class size. After a few years I can say my concerns were totally unfounded. With a middle class-to-affluent zone area (downside: not that ethnically diverse), these kids as a general rule behave well, come in socialized to the school situation from nursery school, and have involved parents. That, plus strong teachers means that classes of 25 have really not been a problem. My son adores his teacher and LOVES this school. We will have to pry him out with a crow bar after 5th grade. The reading program is intense, starting in kindergarden, and each kid is assigned an individually-tailored reading level that pushes them to maximize their abilities. The district 2 math program "TERC" is different from the way I learned and so I was suspicious, but it seems to work. There is more emphasis on concepts and logical problem solving than rote memorization. A lushly funded PTA provides things like chess, visiting authors etc. The principal is warm and thoughtful and knows every child by name. And with a neighborhood school, all my son's school friends live in the neighborhood!

this school is absolutley incredible!!! i am a freshman drama major and i love it!!! its just like any other preforming arts school and it is honestly one of a kind...the begining of the year was tough for me and i wanted to change school but around november i really started to warm up to this school when i had my first preformence in frot of the 10th grade drama class and they absolutley loved me...i would deffinetly reccomend this school if you like a quaint small enviornment. Teacher wise... everybody is amazing... although i am currently having an issue in math i am resolving it with tutoring that happens every wends and thursday every week. The teachers grade very fairly and it is easy to pass. All you have to do is pay attention, do your work and participate. Bottom line this school is awesome :)
