I love CPCS Middle School! It is a wonderful space that encourages parent participation and support. As an educator myself, I see the unfortunate distinction between this charter school and SOME public schools. One of the biggest contrast is how totally dedicated the teachers are to the students. These wonderful individuals avail themselves to both parent and student beyond teaching hours to support academic growth. On weekends, when there are community activies many of the teachers as well as the administration come and participate. In addition to their committment, I love that they allow my daughters to think for themselves. There is a great deal of critical thinking and introspection involved in the learning process. The classes are engaging an my daughters test scores were very impressive. The one area that I have issue with would be when we gather for meetings. Many parents forget the teachers are off duty and it now their job to monitor their children. I become frustrated when children are walking around and talking while an adult is trying to speak. Other than that, I have no complaints only high praise for CPCS.

P.S.157 is a great school. I'm impressed with the school's great leadership shown by their principal and staff. They show much care for their students and their families. My child is doing very well in school and I know its because of the teachers involvment in his education. I feel confident about my childs education because I can easily approach the teachers with any concerns I have. I am very happy with the expansion of the school because my child will be there until the 8th grade. Congrats to P.S. 157.

Excellent is the word for this school my son is in 2nd grade in this school and he really excels, the teachers are very challenging, and caring they also discipline in a respectful manner, the principal knows each child by name he welcomes parents views, comments, and suggestions. Their new robotics program is outstanding and i'm very proud to see that for the demographics of the school it has a very high academic performance. The school offer a lot of ways for parents to be involved, as with everything in life you might not agree with everything a person do that dose not mean the school isn't doing well. We still need a lot more parents to be involve with the school, though, Keep up the great work.

PUBLIC K - 5 AVERAGE 392 3

Contrary to popular belief most of the teachers at the school do push the children and work hard. I know first hand that the principal and/or 'higher ups' dictate what should and should not be taught instead of allowing experienced teachers to do what works. Fortunately for me when my children were there a few years ago they had excellent teachers and performed well.

This school is community based and has a great parent support system. Academically there can be more improvement but they have the faith to pull it together. There is a new principal so things should fall back into perspective by September.

As a 2009 graduate from Benjamin Banneker Academy, I must say that my teachers and taking advantage of the AP courses offered has prepared me well for college. Now a junior pursing my BA degree I often look back on what I learned in high school and I must say, this school really is great all around.

URBAN ASSEM ACADEMY - ARTS & LETTER
225 ADELPHI ST
[Details]
PUBLIC 5 - 8 AVERAGE 306 5
(Based on 10 reviews)

I have twins (boy & girl) attending UAAAL in 6th grade and both are doing extremely well. The principal is steadfast in the quality of education given to the students. The dedication of the teachers is phenomenal. My son went from a 65 and 69 in his first and second quarter math, respectively, to an 86 in the third! That's because the teachers and afterschool staff worked tirelessly with him morning, noon and during after school hours. My daughter is encouraged to express her artistic side in so many different ways and the art exhibitions of all the children are fantastic. Another great attribute is the Citizen School, a free after-school program that only requires parent and student commitment. The children apprentice in different companies, such as AOL, Google, etc. The PA spirit is high but needs more parent involvement. Arts & Letters is an A+++ middle school in a school system that is near to failing.
