Great academic focus, not too big on sports... but has a wonderful musical program. Extremely diverse student population that gets along... Although the teaching staff could be a little more diverse. Superior test scores, several dozen kids get into Ivy and Ivy caliber schools. This is a very good school overall.

Excellence is honored at this school, while no place is perfect, my child was free to follow his own path and was prepared in an exceptional manner for the demands of higher education. Where else does the middle class get, in my opinion, a private school atmosphere at a public school price? I consider the place as a great blessing- and am proud that my son graduated from Herricks.

Top notch education where teachers motivate students to become future leaders.

Herricks has a rich tradition in many areas. Most noticeably their musical department which has won numerous awards including grammy's. Over the last 5 years, there has been a trend of younger teachers moving into this district, leading the children towards a more technoligical age, much different than the 'old school' teachers. As for the leadership, there is likely no other district on Long Island in which the students have sometimes just as big as a role as the adminstators. This has led the district into a new age where everyone is happy, including the parents.

Herricks is one of the best districts on Long Island. Known for academic excellance.

Excellent school, racially diverse, lots of kids going on to ivy league schools, i.e., my daughter went to Cornell after graduating, her friends went to Swarthmore, Harvard, Middlebury, U Penn, Brown. Wonderful teachers, especially in Honors and AP classes, Excellent music program, honors band and orchestras. The only negative would be, the sports program is not that great, however, Baseball made all state last year. Also, great diversity, where everyone gets along. my kids have never been bullied or pressured. Also, one of the lowest school taxes with high achievement records on Long Island.

First off, everyone please ignore the post a few pages back saying that the teachers are horrible and that it is a bad school. Herricks is such a good school that I can easily say that it is an academic caliber equal to and in many ways above many colleges out there, especially the A.P. classes. The school academic program is very rigorous and the teachers are outstanding. I can honestly say I went through almost all of high school without having one teacher I could complain about. I doubt there is any other school out their, other than Jericho and Garden City, where the students as a whole are on a whole other level. And yea are sports haven't been doing to well recently, except for our wrestling team, which is always at the top of their game due to the superior coaching of Coach Forziat.

Very wonderful school full of programs

I personally thought that this school is one of the best schools in comparison to the other Long Island schools. I have attended Herricks elementary school (Searingtown), middle school, and high school. This school is competitive but it really does push its students to excel.

They have great quality in academics and has many extracurricular activities. The parent involvement has improved.

I am now a parent and was also a student of Herricks. As with any school, it was hard to fit in when you are the new kid. Overall, the academics are great but socially I had a hard time.

I have to agree with the previous post. There are maybe one or two teachers in this entire district that truly care about the average or below average students.

This school is very structured and therefore it is average. The after school activities are horrible and the 7 hour 20 minute work day is tough. The homework is of a very high amount, and the teaching is VERY poor. The teaching is regimental and the teachers don't know that they're teaching.

Regarding the post below me, don't take what he/she has into consideration at all. I had just recently graduated Herricks and looking back, they did an amazing job with my education. The teachers there care greatly about their students exceeding and the academic prestige on Long Island is like no other. This school prepares your student for college and their future as well. Currently I am having almost no trouble right now while some of my peers here are struggling. I have nothing but good things to say about this high school and highly recommend you enroll your child here

okay, I am a student at Herricks high schoool so I will tell you how it really is. The work is alot and the teachers push you alot and don't really show any compassion or effort to help you. They just don't care about the schools like Jericho or those nice high schools. The sports are horrible. I am not saying that this is a bad school, but they do put TOO much pressure on the kids. which results the students to do bad in the test scores. I am really serious. So I hope you think where you want your child to go for the next 4 years
