Overall Experience 2015-04-01
I can not image going to a different high school. I am so grateful for all the friends I made at East Rockaway High School. Rock Rivalry was one of the best memories I made at East Rockaway. I will always remember the amazing performances and all the work my grade put into it. I truly have to thank East Rockaway High School because without the staff and students I wouldn't be the person I am today.
The teachers are always there to help you.
The teachers at the school are good for the most part. The administration makes sure that they hire teachers who care about the students are know how to lesson plan.
Most teachers are great and really care about students and their jobs.
The quality of my teachers was pretty good for the most part. It really depended on whether or not their teaching style fits with your learning style and their attitude. There are some teachers that I liked as people but, not as teachers.
MOST the teachers are great
The teachers are the best I have seen.
its amazing if you take advantage of the ap classes, if not classes are mediocre at best.
Great variety pf classes, great teachers
The school offers great classes
Overall Experience 2016-03-01
I had a very good experience, but I know of many who did not. I believe most of my success here came from a personal drive, not necessarily because of the teachers. Overall, the student body is friendly.
Overall Experience 2015-07-01
This school is unique because it's a small school, so everyone knows each other and the students are able to get to know the teachers better.
It's high school, you just take the classes you need to graduate.
Overall Experience 2015-12-01
I've overall had an average experience at this school. The arts department has been my favorite part of my time in school, and do an exceptional job of making the school day "fun" and leaving me with something to look forward to each day.
Overall Experience 2015-08-01
We are a small school which really gives a close feel, like we're a family. A better performing arts program would be appreciated and definitely welcome. More electives and college readiness would be beneficial.
Educational Outcomes 2014-11-01
After graduation I made the choice to go to college which was a great one. However, I wasn't completely adequately prepared for the work-load and we didn't really write any research papers which has turned out to be a huge set-back. All of my friends from different high schools have a lot more prior experience in writing papers than I do. I would definitely recommend taking Senior Seminar, it's a great opportunity; you get a taste for the real world and what it's like to work a real job. I also learned interview skills which have helped me tremendously.

I came here as a junior, and made some great friends here.
Our academics are ok! I would say our science department is lacking the most in chemistry teachers. The library is a great place to go to study and find resources (and be alone in a quiet place). We do offer quite a bit of AP courses for college credit which gives students who take them an advantage and a challenging curriculum. Senior Seminar is a course everyone should take! You learn about real-world experience and the business world. You learn how to write resumes, interview tactics, and you have the option to leave the school during periods 7-9 to do an internship of your choice!

if i had a chance to transfer to a private school i'd do it in a heartbeat, but i can deal with it. take advantage of ap classes and sports. just wish cliques weren't such a big problem.

Rock Rivalry was worth it, the racism? Not so much
Overall Experience 2014-02-01
This school was positively bland and mediocre. I do appreciate the small size because I was able to do a variety of things I enjoy without much exclusivity. However, the general student population just float by; there is not much much passion anywhere. Just a handful of teachers have influenced me positively. However, I developed no exceptionally strong ties to any teachers. The kids are very cliquey. There is no variety at all in students, nor are there many to begin with. Friend groups have often been together since Kindergarten. No one knows how to make friends or survive outside the little bubble of East Rockaway. The lack of diversity is utterly unfortunate. Many are close-minded and ignorant. The overall experience really wasn't that great.

It's a small school which has both positive and negative aspects. Everyone literally knows everyone which can be a bad thing. Rumors get around as quickly as a wildfire. The people are very cliquey. Many of the teachers always favor certain students and the cafeteria food is pretty awful and over-priced! The cafeteria workers, should be wearing hair nets! Half of the teachers are actually pretty good/decent and the other half are mediocre/terrible. The clubs are actually pretty good though. The key-club is pretty good and though exclusive- so is the school musical program (you need to audition for this). If you have at least one true friend at school, you'll be ok and get through it. Just ignore any distasteful things people say about you and STAY OUT OF DRAMA! A lot of unnecessary drama goes on at our school. Just be yourself and don't change for anyone else! Due to all of the negative reasons I've listed above, I wouldn't choose this school again.

everyone is white and roman chatholic
Overall teacher quality is decent. There are a few absolutely horrible teachers that should be fired, a few mediocre. Some are very knowledgable, but not generally worldly. One or two are very passionate about their subjects and helping students. Some are very nice people. Grading is usually very consistent, especially in AP classes.
It is hard to generalize the entire teacher population...there are some who go above and beyond, and others that I question how they still have a job. I had some great experiences and teachers I truly respect, while also having some bad experiences.
Most do an adequate job of teaching their subject, and there are a few teachers, very few that stick out as doing an exceptional job of engaging students and ensuring each student understands the topic at hand.
either the teachers are fully devoted and care about everyone, or they don't care at all. no in between.
Student Culture & Diversity 2013-11-01
Everyone is very cliquey at this school because it's a small school and everyone knows everyone else! Students try to pressure their peers into trying things such as drugs, alcohol, and smoking quite often! This is easily avoidable, you can just say no and walk away. However, many people don't do this and still give in anyway which is not good. If there is a problem with peer-pressure you can always tell an administrator. However, the chance of them taking disciplinary action is very slim. You need to be your own advocate. Race-wise East Rockaway High School is mainly made up of white students with some black and hispanic ones. Sexual-orientation wise- students are mainly straight. Gay students are a minority and are treated the same for the most part as far as I know (or they should be). If you are bullied or teased please don't keep it to yourself, make sure to tell someone and stand-up for yourself!
Student Culture & Diversity 2014-02-01
Student culture and diversity is miserably narrow. Most students are Caucasian. Other ethnicities are rare. The few minorities tend to stick together. There is close-mindedness as well. Most are heterosexual, while the few who are not tend to keep homosexuality on the down low. Everyone knows everyone, but everyone is the same. Social life consists of the same clique of people having exclusive house parties to drink beer. Anyone else is on their own. There are only a few genuine people.

its to small for me no one ever leaves, alumni stays and teaches and everyone knows everyone
