ci has shown alot in the four years I attended there. they shown me pride; within my school, my town, and with in my self. ci has an ecclectic mix of students, and teaches you how to interact with many people. you can always find people of different hertiages there, so diversity is not problem tht there is a lack of. many teachers in ci prepared me for college. and they are always there to assisist you in whatever problem there is, from personal to academic. now im in Hostra University, preparing to become a teacher myself, in order to go back to ci and show our next generation, ci pride.

As a former student, I am proud to say that I was a student there (regardless of previous reputation). My mentor all through high school has retired a few years now. She was my inspiration to become a teacher. Mrs. Huber was a high school science teacher but I am recently certified as an elementary teacher. It is my goal to return to CI to teach, give back, and share my knowledge and experience with the community!

i am a 9th grader at cihs and i love it the only reason why the school has the rep it does is because of the bone heads who don't know when to stop. every high school no matter where you go is like that i personaly think that if you want to make it out there in the real world your best chance is here it's as close to the real world as your going to get in high school

Unlike the other idiotic responses that I have heard by parents,I actually have good to say about the school,This School has to be the best Music Schools In The Country,With A Award Winning Band,And They're Choir's,Are Sinply Amazing,The Concert Choir,Has Just Came Back,From Austria,Yes Austria,They were one of three in the country to be invited. And although test scores may be relatively low,CIHS is one of the Most Improved Schools in New York State,If Parents Have So Much Negativity To State About This School,Talking About How All The Syudents Are Concerned About Fasion And Gangs,Maybe These Parents Should Check With They're Own Kids,Because I Currently Attend This School,And I Have No Problem With Anything Here,You're Children Are What Make This School,What It Is,Because The Teachers Here Are More Then Dedicated,And Although C.I.H.S May Not Be The Best,There Is Always Room For Improvement,And Its Happening.

This school can have fights sometimes, but what school doesn't. Overall it is a good school. There are low grades but that has nothing to do with the teachers. They are very good teachers and I have learned a lot from them. I get very good grades and the people that do bad can only blame themselves.

you cannot depend on a teacher to feed you the education, the teachers here are amazing, but if your child doesnt want to achieve he wont, thus bringing the state test scores in our school down. This school has the most wonderful diversity i have ever seen. its an amazing school if your willing to do what you have to do.

I have three children who have graduated from C.I. High School. My oldest has moved to Florida and is persuing a career in the Health Care Field. Prior to moving to Long Island I lived in the city all of my life and most of my childrens as well. My oldest was just passing through school in the city up until 11th grade. He spent his senior year at C.I and for the first time he made a committment to do better. I said that to say this he did'nt do it alone. Had it not been for the very well trained and attentive staff he might be a negative statistic instead of a positive one. My daughter is now attending college for Early Childhood intervention and my youngest who just graduated from C.I high is on his way to college in Florida come this spring. Despite the very many negative things that were said about the Central Islip school district and for that matter C.I. in general I am not sorry one bit for moving into this community nor my children attending school here it was and still is a very positive experience for all of us.

I have three children. My first child graduated in 2003. I now have a 2nd child graduating this year and one just starting in ninth grade. The school is and excellent school. The teachers and support staff go out of there way. There have been many changes this 2003-2004 school year. We have a principal with great leadership skills. I am proud to send my children to the Central Islip High School.

School is what you make of it. I lived in CI all my life & graduate from CI. The teachers really do care & want you to succeed. They take time out, stay after & take time from their lunch period or free period to help you where you may need it. Even if it's not school related sometimes. My parents and teachers' involvement in my schooling really helped me out in some rough times. (From a former students point of view & now a parent)

As a student i feel that Central Islip HS is extremely underated. It has some of the best and more carring teachers on the island. The bad rep and few problems the school faces are overshadowing the good and tallent that exists in the school.

i am very sorry for the person who said students are focused in other things but education. As it is known the school is not the best in the nation but it also depends on the education parents give their children. i graduated from the school last year 2005 and i graduated with honors, my teachers knew me, i did community service and joined different groups. Certainly, there are students who go to school to socialize or try to be the best at fashion but once again who's fault is it?

My son is a student at this school and I feel that he is getting a good education all the teachers stay after daily for extra help and they are in constant contact with me about my sons progress.

The schools academic programs are good. and the teachers or coaches are dedicated to work hard so students can learn leadership and team work. The school needs to focus more on how to prepare students to pass the regents exams. They do try to by giving students the review books but that's as far as it goes sometimes. The music is a good program . The program I like the most is the legal program ,the school has a court room set up and the classes go dressed as lawyers and judges and they go threw a whole courtroom process. Teachers and parents need to care more and be more involved and the school could do better.

im a freshmen at CIHS and its okay. there are people who just act like animals and others who act normal. i wish we had better teachers, if u ask all the students if they have at least 2 or 3 horrible teachers i bet more then half would say yes. Ci is a great school but there needs to be a better system; more organized and run better.

If you want to do well, you will students who go to this school and want to do well go to ivy league universities but the students who dont want to do well, dont do well because of the lack of discipline at home. and for your information, the music department doesnt soak up any money at all, and i would know because i attend the board meetings/

This is not the best school in the world, I can tell you that. My son went to that school and got into a whole lot of problems. His grades terrible, and threats with all the gangs in that school. They say its the parents that make the student, but when i transfered him to catholic school he is now a straight A student and living in a stress free environment.

This school is terrible!! My son attended this school for the 9th grade and did not like it. He came from a school as a honor roll student, but when he got to CIHS everything seemed to go down. He has now transferred to another school and is doing wonderful! The teachers seem to have their favorites and the music department is not what it seems. There is definitely favoritism in the music dept. I had a niece who graduated from the school and other children i know who also graduated and said they would not advise anyone to have to put CIHS on their resume. The school needs a whole new makeover as far as the teachers!!!

CI is a horrible school. The education system is low and most teachers don't even teach and just sit around and don nothing. The students are out of control and there is always fights and riots and they never keep to their Curriculum.

Community residents should look at Newsday's yearly school report on Suffolk County Long Island's 62 public high schools. A quick look will show that Central Islip Senior High School is one of the bottom 5 schools in the percentage of students passing Regents English, Math, Global History, US History, and science, graduation rate, and percentage of students receiving a regents diploma. Poor education is unfair to all students.

As a parent I feel this school is a disgrace. my children are very unhappy with the high school and so am I. the teachers are over paid and very uncaring to their student wellbeing.
former student 2006-06-05
I am not surprised that most parents have rated this school on the low side. If my experience there was anything to go by the teacher and school admin tend to cater to only a certain element in the school. If you didn't fall within certain groups you were basically ignored. I was lucky and did well in school, but other siblings and friends weren't and dropped out. Parents need to insist that the school do what it is there to do which is teach, not just give kids a place to hang out for 7hrs. Schools districts where I live now hold both the teacher and parents to higher standards. It is a great partnership.

Like any school in ny this one is horrible.
parent 2005-11-16
Please do not send your child to this school. There is no order in this school the children are fresh and unruly. My daughter currently goes here and i am desperatly trying to get her out. You will be sorry, trust me. The children are focused on everything (fashion, gangs etc.) but education. This school is one of the worst in suffolk county.
former student 2007-11-10
the school is horrendous the teachers do care but almost one none of the students except in honors care at all There is no security people come and go as they wish despise the campus being 'closed'. Discipline is a joke the only punishment is suspension which the only use of people who fight or cut class, which makes no sense at all. Large amounts of people are repeating 9th or 10th grade. There are a large number of 5 and year students. The school has a great band but its over hyped because the music is the only good part of the school. The music program also soaks up a large amount of money. The administration is terrible with three principals in 5 years. The parents don't care except for a minority. The only good point is the teachers are good.
parent 2007-05-29
this school is sub par! so what if the band is good, academics and school curriculum is what makes a school. my son attends this school and everyday there's fights! the teachers in my opinion may be nice and well trained but there are way to 'lax' and should be more dedicated to having students work harder and be more involved in their studies.this school is terrible.

Miami Central is plagued with the same issues that occur at any other inner city school. There are teachers who work very hard to make sure that the students make gains. Learning and respect begins at home. If parents and teachers work together to ensure that the students learn and dicipline issues are resolved, Miami Central will be a better school.
