I really did not like the school at first in 9th grade but as time moves on it got better. We have excellent teachers who give you insight on knowledges in the classroom and outside the class room. The teachers often give their "me time" to us students which is pretty cool that they care about us so much. There are a lot of clubs you just have to find the right one. If the club you want doesn't exist you can always create a proposal and submit it to the principal. The security guards let some students walk out because sometimes it's hard to identify who goes to Gateway because there are four other schools in the building I believe. You can always go to the principal and speak to her. She's not always unavailable. We also have amazing guidance counselors who are there for every students needs, whether it be educational or Emotional need. They provide resources regarding ways to improve your self as a student.
The teachers not only engage with the students inside the classroom, but outside the classroom as well!
Ms. Rosenthal is excellent. She takes the time to guide and teach the students in a way that is interesting. I appreciate how she always makes herself available.
The overall quality of teachers at Jamaica Gateway to the Sciences is great due to the fact they they are not only knowledgable about what they are learning, they form bonds with students encouraging them to excel in the class and persevere when they are struggling in a subject. By voluntarily staying extra hours to help students and prep them for tests show that they are not just teaching for the money. What would make the learning experience better would be to incorporate more technology and better supplies in the classroom, benefitting both students and the teachers.

The extracurricular activities were amazing. The people you meet are different and each uniqueness is expressed in various ways. Swimming was great. A family of friends for support and motivation.

Over the course of my 4 years at this school, I would not have become who I am and have been so successful if I did not have the faculty and my parents for help.

It has been a fun 4 years in my school. The school may have it's ups and downs, but the teachers are very involved with the students and wanting them to be able to graduate with their friends and not have to repeat the year over again. My favorite experience of high school would be me joining the swimming team in 2014-2015. The reason is I didn't see myself becoming an athlete at all, but once I joined the swimming team I knew this would be something I would have fun doing my senior year and also in college. Most times I really think I would like to do high school over again, because I noticed my sophomore year that I really messed up during my first year of high school and I if I was able to do high school over again, I wouldn't make the same mistakes but better ones. With the involvement of the teachers, they encouraged me to change the way I am acting and do better during high school.

My favorite experience at Jamaica Gateway to the Sciences would be the annual pep rallies. All 4 years that I have been apart of the Jamaica Football Team, you could feel the love and support from our fellow teachers, schoolmates, and faculty members and our school pride becomes another incentive for all our teams to play better.

It's a great small school. Teachers are so helpful. Students are really friendly towards each other.

Everyone has a chance to fit in and socialize
Most of the teachers are helpful in their teaching. There are a few who are not as helpful and the students do not learn the proper material. Each classroom has a Smartboard in which teachers teach their lessons. There is a lot of group activity in certain classes such as English or History and students are to conduct socratic seminars where they discuss a book or a given topic. Teachers often go around and check students' work and some conduct notebook checks to keep students on track.
There are only a few teachers that i find interested whether the student learns or not during my four years of high school
This school was brand new when I first attended. I was a student at Jamaica High School from 2009-2011. When Jamaica Gateway to the Sciences opened up within the school, I attended for my senior year (2011-2012). During this first year, the school was building its foundation and just starting to get itself up and running, as well as functioning to properly meet students' needs. I felt they did try to accomplish these goals, but not everything was completely put into place.

The people there are somewhat competitive, but the students with lower GPA's are very relaxed. However, there are very limited classes and the better programs are: music and the various liberal arts clubs. There are only two science based clubs which are: robotics and a medical club which are also mediocre. So, I wouldn't truly go there again since it's very mediocre.
A average variety of classes to choose from
